Christantus Uche Fuels Dominant Palace Win at Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that virtually secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

Another three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal straight entry to the knockout stages, particularly after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity

This match provided a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in succession.

A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were outmatched against a largely rotated Palace lineup. The Londoners were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.

Dominance Asserted from the Start

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the appeals.

The formerArsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.

Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Wraps Up the Game

The contest was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
